UNIVERSITIES.    DESIGN STUDENTS.       ARTISTS.

Labs are expensive and starting from scratch can seem as complicated as rocket science!

We aim to make mycelium substrate kits easily accessible to so we can work together towards a sustainable future.

Growing your own object from fungi is a lot easier than it sounds.

Begin by breaking up the substrate in your Grow-Kit bag carefully and hydrate with distilled water.

Mix everything up and pour the substrate into a mould, pressing it down gently.

Once cast, wrap up your creation and incubate it in a warm, humid environment. Watch over the next week as the mycelium regrows, binding all of the material into a solid form. Sit back and let the fungi exhibit its creative license... And watch out for mushrooms!

When it’s ready, remove your creation from the mould and let it cure. You could even use an oven for this, no specialist equipment needed! You’ll then need to let your creation dry off somewhere with good air circulation. By removing the moisture, the fungi will stop growing and the object will be preserved.

The root system of mushrooms

In addition to being lightweight and strong, mycelium composites are fully sustainable and biodegradable. They can be used to grow objects as well as sheet materials and do not require any chemicals. Mycelium can also decontaminate soil and be used to grow food. The possibilities are almost endless.
